Chrome strikes back

Chrome is taking down pop up scam websites. Keep reporting them sites boys. We are winning… Perhaps.

scammers will find ways to get around the blocking. it will take some CIA or FCC or FTC agencies to take them down.

@lasallianrevolutionary#80526 The only thing US law enforcement can do is go over the registrar since most of the sites/companies running the scams are overseas and it’s tough and a super long slog to get a prosecution going in India much less get Indian courts to get a ruling depending on how large the scam is.

If registrars were held accountable for knowable behavior---as in they're actively ignoring complaints which then make them liable to the damage caused by the scammers, that would get a ton of these typosquatting domains shut down. But GoDaddy--the worst offender--right now does not give a shit, no matter how many times we have complained.

At least browser makers are finally waking up that their software is leading people into financial damage/ruin.

I would like to believe people could be smarter about what they view in a web browser, but there are just way too many naïve people out there. I get misdirected to a shitty fake Adobe Flash "emergency upgrade click here now" site at least once a day just browsing local news websites, it's that insipid.

BTW the tech support scammers went after Google Chrome last year, which apparently has pissed Google off:

@kenzo#80534 yeah. its our job to deal with them so far.

I would request all our supporters on this forum to do something about these new scammers doing rounds now. The tollfree number is 1-844-618-4333 and they claim to be Microsoft, which we know isn’t true. Start ringing their number and make sure they wind up their little scam business.
