On August 9, 2025, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama arrested 36-year-old Escambia County, Florida resident Christopher Machelon Andrews for facilitating a jury duty scam, where:
- Andrews would spoof the phone number of Madison County Sheriffs and pose as a law enforcement officer, threatening to arrest his victim for failing to appear in court on a federal case.
- In order to avoid being arrested, the victim was asked to pay $7,500 through Apple Pay and Green Dot money cards.
Andrews is currently being held in Madison County with a $30,000 bond on felony charges of theft by deception and impersonating a peace officer. This means he faces 5-30 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,.000.
