On March 7, 2025, the New Braunfels Police Department arrested 25-year-old San Lorenzo, California resident Chaopeng Huang for serving as a money mule for a PayPal refund scam that originated from a fraudulent email claiming the victim made a fraudulent purchase of cryptocurrency. Huang was arrested on a $25,000 bond and charged with:

- Possession of a Controlled Substance
