On February 26, 2026, Nassau County Police in Oceanside, New York arrested 32-year-old Queens resident Changxuan Liu for his role as a money mule for an Apple technical support scam, where
- The scammers will contact their victims, in this case a 66-year-old female, under the false personation of Apple employees to falsely claim their account was “compromised.”
- In order to “fix” their account, the victims were asked to withdraw $22,600 from their bank account and hand them off to a designated courier, or money mule.
Liu has since been charged with 3rd-degree attempted grand larceny and resisting arrest following his refusal to comply with verbal commands from detectives, though he was let off on an appearance ticket and an order to return to the First District Court in Hempstead on March 18.
