The scammers have been identified as Centerpointe Lending Student Loan Services, Inc., operating under the business identity of “Valid Debt Relief” and falsely claiming to operate out of a UPS Store in Corona, California. The company was reported on the “StudentLoans” subreddit as a scam about 8 years ago.
On August 1, 2018, the company was sued in the Central District of Florida for violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) after the plaintiff, Chris Milosch from Laguna Niguel, California, received unwanted robocalls from the company despite his number being listed on the national do-not-call registry. The case was settled on November 16, 2018.

The company was also sued for TCPA violations in the District of Pennsylvania on April 19, 2018 after the plaintiff, James Everett Shelton from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, received unwanted cold calls from Ivault Services Phil, Inc., a Filipino company hired by Centerpointe to facilitate marketing robocalls. A settlement was reached on June 20, 2018.
