My girlfriend has fallen victim to a payday loan scam. She had Googled such services and came across Cashnet USA. Although Cashnet USA is supposedly a legit business, she somehow was redirected to a copycat website, entered her information, and advanced $800. She was then directed to go to a grocery store, buy two $400 gift cards, and send them to the ‘loan officer’ she was talking to. His name is Kevin Watson. By that point, she knew she was being scammed. Shortly later, her cell phone was blowing up with threatening text messages informing her that leagal actions are going to be filed, her social security number was going to be blacklisted (never heard of that one), and that they were going to report her to the credit bureaus. I texted the number that was texting her and asked for their EIN number (see attached for the brief conversation). You can see that the EIN number isn’t even the correct format and has too many digts. Anyway, the scammer’s name is Kevin Watson. Phone numbers are (773) 888-6740 and (773) 888-7088. The email he was using is [email protected].
@iScam#65540 She can see it in her account, but she can’t access it. It’s like the funds are frozen or have a hold on them. I’ve asked her to contact her bank to see if they can just release it back to its origination, and to also inform them that her account has been compromised, needs to close it, then open a different one with a different account number. My big concern is she filled out a web form containing ALL of her information, including her social security number. Later after that is when she realized she was being scammed.
