Can scammers tell you're using TextNow?

Hello everyone!

I worked up the courage to try out a refund scam today. I called the number using TextNow and explained that I had received a voicemail about a refund with an iPhone (I looked up the number I called beforehand and saw a transcription of the message they left someone else).

IMMEDIATELY, the guy sighed and said, "what do you really want?" So, I repeated my question and he said "don't use this to call this number again".

Was I absurdly nervous (could be the case, honestly) or can scammers sometimes tell you are calling from a TextNow number?

If they called you before and it went to voicemail. The default voice mail says something along the lines of “This TextNow subscriber is unavailable” But if they didn’t then I have no idea.
