Are there any other apps besides microsip that will allow you to change you caller ID?
Why rely on an app, when you can setup your own asterisk or FreePBX server?
In addition to control over things like the caller ID, you can make way more than 1 phone call, setup multiple phones (physical or software). The configuration ability is well beyond what just any single app can provide.
How do I do the PBX?
Install the software on a PC, or on a VM like Digital Ocean or Linode.
Don’t have a VM, what site do I go to?
There’re many Youtube videos on this topic, might be an idea to check them out ![]()
Well I’ve got Microsip at the moment and happy with that. But I’ll definitely keep it in mind. Thank you!
From your messages, I can see you’re doing great work. Keep it up! ![]()
I appreciate it. You too, I LOVE the comradery!. To be honest with you, if it weren’t for Microsip and changing CID and routing it to a number that I can see, most of the calls I’m getting in I’ve had saved from BBORTC. So as so as they call me on TN I go straight to Microsip and call back. I’m having a blast. Been up since yesterday. @ 3pm
Crikey. Hardcore. It’s good to see someone devoted to doing good. Restores my faith in humanity. True credit to the world and this community!
I originally swayed toward BOB and not here because I didn’t have the right calling software, plus the numbers weren’t as they said, and there was never a change. Now I’m grown to here. Now that I know how to somewhat operate this site, I can do multiple things. I forget what numbers I’ve called for verification, plus it helps having three computers.
Install Asterisk on one of them.
Bob was a great tool. Hopefully, someone will create a tool like it sometime in the future.
How the devil do I do that? And what’s it’s purpose, getting loopy now, number after number.
It’s a phone server.
Think of it like this, you have a cell phone, & you want to install an app so you can change your caller ID, right? Well Asterisk is like your carrier, AT&T/Vonage, whatever, you can setup as many phone clients as you want (they can be physical phones, software phones, or even non-exist extensions), you can use the command line to automate calling.
Get some rest & research it. You miss Bob? You can pretty much create your own personal one. It’s if you are up for it, you obviously don’t have to if it’s not your thing.
Don’t forget you still need to pay for some aspects of a PBX/Asterix. It’s not a free ride, sadly.
I’m definitely up for it, I’ll sleep after these buttholes stop for the day. What do I search for and is the a YT tutorial?
Give me a Price
Correct. I probably drop $20 for 3 months if I’m heavily call flooding. Plus I have multiple DID’s registered at about 50 cents a month. Asterisk itself is free, but you have to have a trunking service like FlowRoute, ideally at least one phone number, & either a PC or VM. You used to be able to get VM’s on Digital Ocean for $5 a moth, I don’t know if that’s still a thing. If you can squeeze your setup into a free tier at AWS, that’s another alternative, but it’s only free for a year.
You can also join free phone networks (yes free!) - if that’s your thing. Like C*Net or PhreakNet
