On December 16, 2024, Missouri state representative Mitch Biggs (R-La Russell) introduced H.B. 564 to create the Caller ID Anti-Spoofing Act to punish fraudulent actors for making spoofed spam/scam calls:
- The first offense would be a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine.
- All subsequent offenses would be Class E felonies, punishable by up to 4 years prison and a $10,000 fine.
- Recipients of calls made with spoofed numbers may also sue for up to $5,000 per call.
