Call being recorded meaning

Hey! I have started hearing a lot of recordings saying this call is being recorded for quality assurance. What does this even mean???

It’s a standard message used by businesses all over the world. There’s not really any meaning to it other than you’re being recorded because the manager might want to see how the employees are doing, or it could help in the case of a complaint. I’m sure some Karen complained about being recorded and now this is the norm for businesses everywhere, but you don’t actually have to tell people you’re recording them.

I think it is just to buy time for the scammer so they can decide if they really wanna answer the call or just keep the music playing. We’ll never know. LOL!

Welcome!

I think it’s also a way to add a sense of legitimacy to their scam.

In some parts of the US, recording a telephone conversation requires both parties to consent, or it cannot be used in court. Honest businesses use that message to show that the other party was notified. Scammers might use it because, like ecw06471 said, it adds an air of legitimacy and normality to their call.

Note that it is not illegal to record calls even in states which require multi-party consent, and any call with three or more parties may be recorded for use in court regardless since no party has an expectation of privacy.

I’ve noticed scammers also use it as an excuse. If you ask them which card was charged in a refund scam they’ll tell you they can’t tell you because the line is being recorded and someone will hear sensitive information. Their goal is for you to connect to their,”Secure server”where you can type in your sensitive info without it being, “seen”. In that particular scam anyway.
