Cable TV Scammer asks for an unusual number

I got an unusual incoming call during the evening of Sept. 17. Someone called me, and they asked me to press “Info” on the TV remote control. They wanted me to read them the resulting number. I did not do it. What can someone do with this number?

I’m not sure, press “Info” and tell me what it says. You can just tell me the number as “Redacted” or “xxxx”, etc.

They are for sure from Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.
Based on “info” (example AT&T/DirecTV), the will pose as reps from that company. They will offer $30 discount but one time fee for upgrading the set-top box. Wants you to give credit card or check details. I end up ta;ling to them in Punjabi dialect of Lahore.

I only have cable Internet. I do not have cable TV. I played them the national anthem.

I might have stumbled across a new type of scam, just by being around to answer the phone. Ever since I started talking to scammers around 2019 or 2020, this is the first such request I ever got.

They adapt. If you say “info” says Comcast, they will say they are from Comcast Xfinity
