Text from spoofed AT&T number: “Final alert: $771.22 from 2024 may be returned. Lock it in now and get your money: https://osoxuva.top/dyM1iM”
The popup is an openprovider.nl domain that redirects mobile users to https://idefavi.top/US/92873846536745/, which falsely claims I “may be entitled to an overcharge” on my nonexistent auto insurance. In order to “claim” my “$771.22 overpayment,” I was asked to either
Receive the full amount as a check/direct deposit
Apply the amount to my next 2 monthly payments
Donate to the National Safe Driving Foundation
However, regardless of whatever option I select, I will be redirected to Best Match Auto Insurance | FinanceBuzz by Buzzery, LLC, powered by Broadpeak Insurance Services, LLC (technically the same company) and affiliated with CMI Marketing, Inc. There, I was asked to give consent into receiving unwanted solicitaitons from the company and their marketing partners, including
AllWebLeads, a known Medicare/insurance scam organization.
CarChex, which has ties to known auto warranty scam organizations.
CarShield, known auto warranty scammers.
Mutual of Omaha, which has ties to Medicare and home warranty scams.
SelectQuote, known Medicare scammers.
SolidQuote, known auto insurance scammers.
TZ Insurance Solutions, known Medicare scammers.
Palmer Administrative Services, known extended warranty scammers.
The company also has a complaint on their BBB listing regarding countless unwanted solicitations for bogus auto insurance plans.
