BobRTC has thwarted yet another takedown attempt, this time an attacker went after GoDaddy, the registrar of BobRTC.live, by sending bupkis complaints. A few months ago a lawyer was haggling GoDaddy trying to pry ownership information or shut the site (he wanted either outcome).
Since it looks like domain-attacks are now becoming a thing, we have decided to diversify our site by allowing us to domain hop.
We're going to start by moving BobRTC to a new home: BobRTC.tel
After Dec 21 the BobRTC.live domain will become a backup domain and we'll run the site instead from BobRTC.tel If you're using BobRTC tomorrow, we'll announce when the cutover will take place on IRC so that you can continue to make calls. We expect BobRTC will be down for approximately 2 hours while we update the system.
We anticipate that phony-complaint attacks against the BobRTC.tel domain will be much more difficult given how friendly the new registrar is.
Also: Yes, we know that BobRTC.com was purchased by scammers. It's hilarious af.
We have some other changes planned in the admin category:
Starting Feb 1 all accounts on BobRTC which have not validated themselves or are inert and have had no activity in quite some time will be removed from the system. This will mean the loss of all XP credits and call tokens. When we Thanos the unused call tokens we will have a system pool that we can use for rewards.
If your account gets purged, you can re-create your account by simply re-registering and logging back in with your Discord account, but you will need to complete the validation process if you want the ability to submit telephone numbers to BobRTC.
That will allow those of you who are petrified about Discord's two-factor authentication to opt out of it and continue to enjoy BobRTC; we just won't be able to accept submissions into the BobRTC Phonebook until you validate.
In the interests of fairness, I have made a complaint to the registrar of BobRTC.com and the page it redirected me to which was trying to get me to install a malware plugin for Firefox.
It might be helpful if as many other people as possible did this.

The site appears to redirect to a number of different malware and spam sites.
