On October 17, 2024, the Bhubaneswar Cyber Police in India conducted a raid against an illegal call center operating from the second floor of the Kanchana Apartment complex in Sundarpada for facilitating McAfee and Norton refund scams against American residents involving the use of Skype to bypass calling restrictions and having their victims pay with gift cards. One of the numbers the scammers used was (845) 478-4236.
Six individuals from Kolkata, West Bengal were arrested and placed in judicial custody for two weeks under sections 318(4), 319(2), 336(2-3), 340(2), 318,61(2), 111(2)(b) of the BNS Act and Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the IT Act.:
