I am sitting this one out. In early February, I got a cease-and-desist order from a New York City lawer, about a different phone number but with the same company name.

Neep: To be honest, I am worried that if people call the number in question, I will be blamed for it by the lawyer. I try not to call AT&T or DISHTV now, unless they call me first. A rare exception is if people are saying in the Scammer.info or Bobrtc.tel article that the location is only trading service for gift cards. Then that is a clear sign of fraud.
Did you call directv /dish directly or the scammers? I’m not sure if I understand which company sent a cease and desist and on what basis. As far as I know those are either USA based robocallers and thus breaking the TCPA or are pure scams. The pure scams certainly won’t send a cease and desist and I doubt the USA based robocallers will either, atleast not against a single scambaiter
The lines are too gray for me to say for sure. I learned my lesson. A) I wait for them to call me. Or B) I might call them if experienced scambaiters were asked to get a gift card.
The cease and desist letter must say from which company it’s coming. Was it from AT&T DirecTV to DishTV directly? Or some 3rd party company? If you want you can also send me via private message or via email [email protected]
I just wanna see if it’s indeed a legitimate cease and desist or just the scammers posed as lawyers or something. So that’s why I want to see that letter.

But this is important, even the other guy quoted you in the other thread. You don’t need to be scared of any prosecution as you don’t dial them. But it’s important to analyze the situation and see which implications it has on other scambaiters and the forum so they don’t end up getting threats. For this reason I’d like to see the letter. You can share it privately if you don’t want it to be public.
