Arrest Warrant scam

My wife received a voicemail, spoofed number of the local county sheriff, telling her there was a warrant for her arrest for missing jury duty (failure to appear and contempt of court, class C felony) And if she didn’t pay a bond they would come arrest her, fingerprint her, have a permanent record, the whole 9 yards. They had her call 609-257-6575, and they had her use extension 7 and she spoke to someone calling himself Deputy David Jenkins, he kept her on the phone trying to get her to travel some place and bring 2 forms of ID, an envelope and 2 stamps to get a voucher and mail money to them. At some point he said she had to speak to his supervisor, but instead of transferring they called her again from the spoofed number. They told her there was a gag order and she could not hang up or contact anyone else. Fortunately, she was texting me and I finally convinced her to hang up as I raced home from work, but she was terrified and crying. Just found this site and would like to do what I can to help stop them and waste their time. Any help appreciated

@crankycaucasian#103519 That number 609-257-XXXX is the number they called her or she called them? This number seems to be really the number of a sheriff department so I assume the scammers just spoofed the number and there’s no way to reach the scammers back.

It seems weird to me, there are scams about an arrest warrant but never have I heard they say that it’s because of a missing jury duty. Scammers usually don’t change their script.

Any information as to where and how to mail the money to them?

@NeeP#103536 That is the number she called, and I verified it is not the county sheriff. I called them separately and confirmed it, they also told me others have called them about this scam as well (Atlantic County, NJ). She never got the info of where she was to go or where to send anything, they were trying to get her to stay on the phone while she drove someplace, but I convinced her via text to hang up before it got that far.

@crankycaucasian#103541 you’re right! I also confirmed with the sheriff. Do you have the full number still? I erased the 4 last digits because I thought it’s the legitimate sherrif office. I will put it back on.

Luckily she didn’t send money, that would’ve been surely lost.

Yes, the full number was 609-257-6575, and they had her use extension 7. I can only assume they use this number for multiple things and this scam is extension 7. I wanted to call and waste their time while hiding my number which led me here. For now I’m comforting my frazzled wife but want to learn what you guys do and contribute. Thanks!
