On June 4, 2025, the Dartmouth Police Department in Massachusetts, with assistance from an agent with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), arrested 21-year-old Queens, New York resident Arman Verma for stealing $86,500 through a technical support scam, where:
The victim, in this case an elderly female, received several fraudulent phone calls from Verma, who posed as an employee for Microsoft and Bank of America.
Verma will falsely claim that his victim’s bank account and computer were compromised, and that she needs to fix the problem by handing him cash from her bank account.
Verma was charged with larceny under $1,200, attempted larceny under $1,200 by false pretenses and the conspiracy to commit.
