Has anyone seen this number before?
910-249-9789
They called my 80 yr old father and took him for about 1K and claimed to be working with Microsoft with a company name of PC Tech, told him his “license” expired. My wife happen to be there when they were talking to him and were in his computer already. I had her disconnect from the internet to get them out but they had already gotten money from him. The number shows to be in Clinton, NC but the BBB has a bad rating on them and several google searches show them to be scammers. Another google search for PC Tech in Clinton, NC shows nothing.
They did take a lot of money from my father so I would like to inundate them with crank calls. I can’t believe their number is still active, it seems like a lot of other scammer numbers go dead or refuse to answer after they are “made”.
Is there anyway to verify they are scammers? Like I said, because the number is still active and has been for a long time has me suspicious for other reasons.
Thanks for any advice/help
Any company that’s calling you and claiming to be Microsoft is automatically a scam. Microsoft does not call people. Did you know if the man on the phone had an Indian accent? I’m assuming he did. Also you’d be surprised how long long of these companies last, some are quite sophisticated, well have to look into these guys, should be very interesting.
Seems as though they spoofed their number, sadly this one leads no where. Hopefully we’re able to find the company that did this, the businesses real name probably is listed somewhere under the activity log of your fathers payments, that’d be great if you could get us this. Also, please have your father call his credit card/banking company (or whatever business was in charge of passing the payment through) and see if they can help you get the money back in any way. I also recommend canceling whatever medium was used to make the payment, doing this might also stop the charge from being processed depending on how long ago this occurred.[s]Going off what people here are able to, I can almost guarantee you this phone number will be closed within a few hours.[/s]
If someone calls you claiming to be Microsoft, it is a scam. Microsoft will never call you first. Also, license keys never expire.
Additionally, a real Windows license is not anywhere close to $1000. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/b/windows?icid=CNavSoftwareWindows&activetab=tab%3ashopwindows10
These assholes are still up and running even in the night. I made sure I gave them my best. Also @smyff#53337 I’m sorry that your father got scammed. Hopefully, we can flood this number and shut them down. Like @Norm_Harrison#53341 was saying, talk to your father’s bank and see if they can reverse the payment. In most cases, they will, as banks are anti-scammer.

Yes, what Norm said,
Also I would take the computer offline, do a system restore from earlier point before scammers got into it.
Do a thorough virus/malware scan.
Thank you all. I just called the number and the guy answered… he didnt say anything but hello about 15 seconds in but he was there. My father has cancelled his card and alerted his bank because he did pay them by check also. I guess I should have said it was not just license costs, every time they called, it would be “something is wrong” type of scenario and since he is 80, he fell for it. He was the perfect victim.
Since he is in CA and I am in CO, I bought a Geek Squad subscription and he has taken his computer into them to be checked and possibly wiped. If someone can tell me the trick to attach a file or screenshot, I can show you the receipt they sent my father. Copy and paste does not seem to work and I don’t see an upload button.

One BBB victim says:
My wife was asked to purchase $2000 in Wal-Mart gift cards & tell no one
in order to secure a refund instead of simply crediting her credit card that
she had originally used. She was also asked to turn & leave her cell
phone on in her pocket until she completed this task. She never received
the refund from Wayne PC Care who later called several times looking for
the gift cards

It was for more than just the license, it was over about 3 times of them contacting him and yes, it was an Indian accent.
Not sure if the number is dead, no one will pick up the phone.
Here’s the link to the receipt they sent my father:

The guy that seems to answer the most is named Nick, a very common Indian name. :)
As their receipt says, they may be closed on weekends.
Seems like they are not answering at all now after calling them for the last week or so.
@smyff#53337 I feel very sorry for you and your dad. What Norm said completely. Please warn your father to hang up if something like this ever happens again. Or equally, waste their time. Have a conversation with them, just make sure they can’t scam anyone else!
These guys have what looks like a legitimate website (www.pccare.us) and shows an address (2975 Church Road
1835 Johnston Road, Raleigh , NC 28218) but looking in Google maps, I can’t find it. The other address from the Whois search was “2975 Church Road Clinton NC 28328” but Google maps shows basically just a country road with an old house in the background.
@smyff#53337 I called him and told him that my name is Mike Hawk. He completely fell for it and he told me that he was to call me tomorrow. I gave him a phone number that is out of service, so he’ll be taken care of by a phone number that is not in service.
