On February 6, 2025, the Barberton Police Department in Ohio and U.S. Marshals arrested 28-year-old Ankit Patel for stealing over $130,000 from an elderly woman through a common Microsoft technical support scam. Patel is now being held on a $500,000 bond at the Summit County Jail on a felony charge of stealing from the elderly.
Patel is also being held by ICE as he is not a U.S. citizen and is also subject to multiple investigations stemming from similar incidents across the country.
