On January 9, 2026, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office in Utah issued an arrest warrant for 30-year-old Oakdale, Louisiana resident Andre Marquise Hofman for facilitating a “jury duty” scam, where:
- Hofman would call his victims under the guise of a sheriff’s deputy and threaten to arrest them on the grounds of missing jury duty.
- In order to “avoid jail time,” the victim was asked to wire $2,900 to Hofman through Apple Pay.
Hofman has since been charged with communications fraud, theft by deception and impersonating an officer. He now faces up to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines on the first two charges alone.
