“Eric” asked for my name and ZIP code before falsely claiming my Amazon account was accessed from “24 different locations,” including Ohio, New Jersey, New York and Texas; that there was an additional $999 for Airpods and a Macbook Pro, and that he received an email from the “US Consumer Agency” regarding additional bank accounts being registered under my identity.
- I was then asked to hang up the call and receive a callback from my PBX number, which was spoofed in this case, before “Eric” transferred the call to a coworker who posed as an agent with the headquarters of my fake bank and asked for my birthday and THE LAST 4 DIGITS OF MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.
- The agent filed “a case of identification fraud” with the “Federal Trade Dept.” and the “U.S. Treasury Dept.” I was then asked to go to my local bank and never call them back.
