AG Anti-Robocall Taskforce Cracks Down on Problematic Telco Providers

I was pleased to learn that the Attorney General’s Anti-Robocall Taskforce issued a series of cease-and-desist notices yesterday to several questionable VoIP carriers. Notably, some of these notices are final warnings, which could lead to lawsuits or disconnection in the near future. While government enforcement often feels like too little, too late, this still represents meaningful progress — and a small win for those of us who deal with these calls daily.

At the heart of the issue is the fact that many of these carriers have turned a blind eye to the flood of illegal robocalls originating from overseas, targeting everyday Americans. Some of these entities appear to have facilitated this activity for years. Personally, I’ve had numerous illegal robocalls traced back to Telcast Network — calls from Pakistani-based “Medicare Advisors” and other Medicare-related scam operations. Telcast, notably, is a sizable client of Peerless Network (now part of InfoBip).

I’ve also traced multiple harassing calls to foreign-based clients of Commio, doing business as “thinQ Technologies,” a VoIP provider that seems to have a problematic track record when it comes to compliance. Despite reporting these issues directly to the carrier, I’ve often been met with indifference — or worse, resistance and sheer nastiness.

For those who are interested, I’ve included some relevant documents below. They’re worth reading and include contact information for government attorneys handling these cases. If you’re as fed up with the foreign scam operations using platforms like RingCentral as I am, this could be a good opportunity to make your voice heard.

Hit them where it hurts, their wallets.

Ideally, I would like our country to modify its laws to make it a criminally prosecutable offense for the carriers to ignore legitimate reports of illegal activities, including illicit robocalls, on their network. I’d love to see Croatian Kutic brothers of Peerless Network/InfoBip in handcuffs and face down somewhere at the JFK Airport arrested upon arrival from their beautiful country, for example!

I’d like to see Vlad and Vlad from Ring Central with a ball and chain around their legs breaking rocks.

What’s hilarious is that the face of one of said Vlads, in my opinion, bears some resemblance to Vladimir Harkonnen character from Dune! :joy: I am not saying that the behavior is the same, but the facial features have some similarity!
