A spam... video converter?!?!?!?

Hey everybody!!!

I found a new scam that almost forced me to delete all my videos! the video converter Freemake Video Converter used to be a great video converter(e.g. WebM to MP4)! but recently, since they have a new version, almost annihilated all my videos! if you download the "converter" and then use it for the first time after it says it's "converted" it, once you go to your files app to see if it's there, you will first see that the icon (instead of being a videos icon) looks like an orange UFO. then when you try to open it, it will always forward you to their app! this will also happen to all other videos on that drive (e.g. if you are extracting videos from a thumb drive all the videos on a thumb drive will be encrypted. but everything on your computer will be fine)! at the end of this post, I will show you an alternative. but if you already have the app installed, do the following steps...

  • 1. download AVG free version at AVG 2024 | FREE Antivirus, VPN & TuneUp for All Your Devices#
  • 2. set it up
  • 3. exit out of AVG
  • 4. right click on the icon of Freemake Video Converter AND the Freemake Video Converter installer(they are two separate things)
  • 5. click on "shred using AVG"
  • 6. confirm you want to shred it
  • easy as that! and after 15 minutes (roughly) your video should have come back to normal!

now here's a great alternative. https://videoconverter.wondershare.com/ if you are a Chromebook user, they have a web version (but it can only convert 100MB of video) if you download it though, you can only do 3 videos at a time. you'll have to upgrade, but it's worth the time and money(600MB = 30MIN.)
