I don’t know what else to do with this situation, so I turn to you on the internet. For the last 9 months or so, I have been receiving phone calls that look like a local number…let me be clear when I say “look like” I usually answer these calls only because they are local. Anyway, I have recently caught on that the first 6 numbers are always the same as mine. The last 4 numbers tend to end with 6175, 6176, 6177, 6178 or 6179. I no longer answer these calls but always receive one of the following voicemails:
"do you want to lower your credit card interest? press 9 now, press 3 to be placed on our do not call list" (I have pushed 3 numerous times on these phone calls and it clearly never works).
second voicemail option:
"congratulations, you have won a 3 night stay at one of our amazing hotels.....etc....etc... AND AGAIN press 9 now, press 3 to be placed on our do not call list"
This wouldn't usually bother me because I can either ignore the calls or block the number..(I have actually blocked the numbers and new ones always call with the same thing) .However, for the past 6 out of the 9 months of receiving these calls, I will get a call from one of those numbers, except this time it's an actual person! Typically an angry person stating that I call them more than 15 times A DAY and never say anything or there is some recording... I do not make these calls or know these people....ever! I get more than one angry text, voicemail or phone call from different people stating this and they are just as confused as I am when I explain that I receive calls from their number, but its always a recording and surely not 15 times a day....maybe 6-7 times a week. There have been times when I go to call back the number that the recording came from and it ALWAYS says: "your call cannot be completed as dialed, it may have been changed or disconnected, goodbye".
What the hell is going on and what can I do?
For reference: I have had the same telephone number for 10+ years...
