A genuine ask for help

Hi all,

As you all may or may not know, this last 6 months or so I have been on a huge kick of scambaiting 419 scammers (mainly because low effort, and my mom hates scambaiting for some reason???)

Ill make a post on how to find so many that you’re drowning in them later, but one of the main places I have found a lot of scammers is on conspiracy theory groups on telegram (I guess they are the most gullible, and telegram really is just unmoderated for the most part). In my travels across telegram I came across this one Nigerian going under the name “lina stacy”. They didn’t really try to run a scam as much as they tried to be friendly and then asked me for a $100 gift card. Not perfect but I’ll give it a pass based on their situation, and its certainly not as cruel as most of the other scammers so :person_shrugging:.

That was the end of march 2022. When he asked me for the gift card, I decided to grabify him and see what device he’s on and what device he is using, and saw that he is in Lagos, Nigeria, and on an old android 4 device running chrome v33. I asked him if he just really needs the money, and he said yes he does. Me and my friend (ex-friend now) then went and found job listings for people in nigeria, but as some of you may expect, chrome v33 isnt going to do so well doing… anything. I spent a couple months trying to help him get an updated browser on the device, but upon further investigation it was a fakephone with 2gb of storage, pretending to have 32gb, so that wasn’t really going to work well lol.

After that he brought up the idea of him buying a new phone with financial support from me. It is a little awkward for me to be sending around money at the moment, however I was willing to ship off a spare phone I have… except it would be illegal for him to pick it up. So at this point the only solution we can think of any more is to ask for help. Here I am passing along the word of someone who I believe to be a good person who happens to be in a time in need. Here is the message they wrote for me to pass along to you.

Hello everyone who is reaching through this message

My name is Ayomi amoo

Anything you can pitch in will be a great help and greatly appreciated. Currently the best form of money transfer I can think of at this point would likely be giftcards, however we also agreed that I could receive the money in my paypal and transfer it (though I wouldn’t prefer this option, and also you’ll need to contact me since my name is identifiable and I don’t know a good way to hide it from the paypal.me). I told him that he can repay my efforts (and by extension anyone else who helps) by promising to pass along the favor once he got on his feet, and he has promised to do such when he can. You could also message me and we could figure out something like bank transfer or western union if you message me. I will be putting my contact information and forwarding the messages to him as I know the internet can be a nasty place, especially to people of color, and often likes to kick people while they are down. Below will be my contact information, please reply here or message me if you have any questions.

I wanted to provide a few updates.

For anyone curious why I put my number, see this dipshit

Also I wanted to say that I had tried to contact pleasant green and perogi twice but I never got any response. Idk if that matters to anyone but I felt like it could be relevant to someone.

Man, this is amazing. I hope I could help, but I’m broke too. Is there any way I, or the whole scambait community, could help him without paying, or shipping anything?

Really hope you succeed, and really hope he genuinely needs money and won’t be scamming anyone anymore. Cheers!

About how much money did he need to finish his studies? What does he plan to do after his education?

Would it be possible to hear from him on this site and see him answer some of the questions members of our community have posted? I hope you see why some may find it suspicious that you simply messaged a wannabe scammer and now want to help him, especially in the likelihood that he has done at least some scamming and that people like this can easily play with your emotions to gain money. If his situation truly is like this, he must prove it in order for us to help him. I don’t mean to be a d*ck, but we are a group dedicated to stop scammers and carefully rehabilitate them, not potentially enable them to cause more damage to the vulnerable at home.

Ah yes I need to talk to the person privately messaging me from a voip number and is too scared to leave their nasty comments publicly, “like a man”

edit: just realized it reads “like a man pussy” which is even better ngl lmao

no i hear your point. ill pass along your suggestion, not sure if their device will be able to load the page but this is a basic page so it should be able to, and if not i suppose i could send the questions to them on whatsapp and screenshot his replies. if it does help here is a screen recording of the telegram side, and if y’all want I can export the whatsapp chat and upload the non-sensitive parts here. i should have attached the telegram screen recording from the beginning but i forgor

for the most part if anything else would help dont hesitate to let me know. As i’ve said im willing to also get you in contact with Ayomi on whatsapp if you just dm me, I just wish to screen people for the reason shown in the above post

edit: just wanted to clarify that after writing this post i told him that you guys thought it would be a good idea to come on the website and respond to questions, he should see it when he wakes up.

I just also wanted to respond to this and say one of the bigger things that you could do to help without spending money is if you have any ideas on how he could make money without really having a great phone, but also without scamming people.

I’ve exhausted all my ideas and thats why we’re here, but if you have any brilliant ideas that would be amazing.

If his internet access is poor due to technological boundaries, he will likely have to find something local. If he’s looking for cash for education, he can always try to find a low-level job that does not require significant experience, though, I’m no Nigerian economy expert. A better job can always come after school.

yeah, the nigerian economy is really poor, 1 naira is nothing for us in developed countries. Thats the sad thing because if he could just get one of those “low” paying online jobs from the US, that would be pretty decent in naira and that is what i would like to do. It seems that he was unable to open scammer.info, but here is his response to the question about his school and stuff

I don’t know about the Nigerian guy - he doesn’t want to be transparent and I would reckon that a simple site like this could load on any device - I loaded it yesterday on one of my old, early-internet cellphones from 2008 that only had 1GB storage and barely any RAM. He doesn’t need an online job, it could be a local occupation as well. It seems that at this point, he will do anything to avoid the true issue and just wants some money from you. Sorry this is the case, but it is what it is.

ill put it out there that i think the issue is the cell connection not the device at this point. I’ll have him try again

If he is using cell service or Wi-Fi (which is likely garbage in Nigeria), it might be difficult for him. But if he was able to download the messaging app onto his phone and then could communicate with you each and every day, it seems suspicious to me that he wouldn’t be able to load a low-data webpage. Especially since he could load the image that you sent. Nigeria probably has internet sufficient to at least do something like that? Their scammers email me from gmail every day!

i do think whatsapp was already installed on the phone, he was unable to install apps like paypal and stuff when i was trying to help him brainstorm stuff, and hes sent screenshots of the error it gives. heres one of them if that helps. He did never say explicitly that he couldn’t load this page so ill emphasize that he should come on here and speak for himself.

if you have whatsapp, since you seem pretty chill, i can have him try make a group chat with us if that would help figure everything out. Im happy to hear out your concerns, I’m just trying to provide the knowledge ive gained.

I don’t have WhatsApp. Is there somewhere he can access a decent cellular signal or can gain access to Wi-Fi internet. The screenshot shows a decent 3G signal, which probably is enough for what it is.

this is the screenshot he sent back

i told him to try later maybe and he said “absolutely”

do you perhaps have telegram? i could try ask him if he has a telegram, he obviously used to but i think he lost access when he lost his phone, hes currently on a borrowed phone from his brother(?).

edit: no telegram

update he is willing to try installing telegram if you have it. I can say that the messages take ages to deliver and come back, so the cell reception is likely terrible.
