A 'Code of Practice' for Scam-baiting

Both Scammer.Info and BobRTC are wonderful resources. Because they are so essential in the fight against Scammers (and because the enforcement authorities do so little) it is really important that these resources remain available to our community.

For that reason it is important that the integrity of the sites is upheld and we do not give the Scammers a reason to complain or question our motives. A couple of issues concern me;

(1) Casual racism - many Indians support our efforts and are embarrassed by the criminal Scammers.The use of racial slurs when scambaiting is unnecessary and counter-productive.

(2) Is it a Scam? While some Scams (like pop-ups) are obvious, it's not fair to target any call centre or service without evidence. I think it is perfectly acceptable to 'test' a number to see if they attempt deception, but just because they are Indian and provide technical support is not a reason to call flood them. Find evidence, describe/report the evidence, then they are fair game.

For all these reasons I would humbly suggest a 'Code of practice' for Scambaiting that clearly sets out the ethical boundaries of what we are trying to achieve - disrupting and closing down the REAL Scammers by making their operations unprofitable.
