Same thing like with many other scams: they call from a few spoofed numbers and leave a voicemail to call them back at the number indicated Apparently, they will ensure “Forgiveness of all your credit card, tax & other debts. Call today before program expires”. I got humans at 3:20 PM CST. I had a person who sounded American answer. You have to just press “1” to connect to a live scammer.
Just called and they just asked me If I needed help with my taxes. I said no and the American speaking woman said she would remove me from the list and hang up.
These American folks should be disgusted at themselves for scamming their own people.
What do these people actually do to earn money from this scam ?
Yes, they are Americans or Canadians. They are still scammers, though. They call people on Do No Call List actively. This is a violation of TCPA and many other laws. They’re phishing for confidential information in identity theft efforts.
delboy_derek, it is usually one of the two: 1. Obtaining somebody’s credit card number under the pretext of some sort of “debt elimination arrangement”. They’d simply defraud a person and use their CC for their scamming purposes.
2. Identity theft scam to phish for your SSN, DOB, full name and address to then fraudulently obtain loans/credit cards etc. Infamous “Medicare Benefits Advisors” engage in the same type of fraud too.
