208-786-8697 Alarmed Popup Tech Support Scam

This Indian scammer (Roger Stewart) keeps calling my mother-in-law because she needs her computer “serviced” because she has a virus. This, after she paid them $2100 a few months ago to install Win 10. She’s on the sucker list. I have a couple of their voicemails. Not sure how to attach them.

Appreciate your efforts in taking these guys down.

@Moda829#174270 upload those recordings to chirb.it and post the links here. The sad reality is that once you are on their list, it’s very difficult to get off it. Probably ask her to switch her phone to airplane mode for a few weeks or months and communicate with her through voice/video chats only.

Thanks! Here they are:

@Andromeda#174306 Thanks, good advice. I did block the number from her phone. They’ll just call from another number, but now I have access to her voicemail so I can catch it.

@Moda829#174270 flooding their phones now. should be down soon.

@Moda829#174318 I’m happy to help, despite my poor knowledge of computers and related tech. That’s also one of the reasons why I don’t use a VM to scambait.

I hear a company name “Nero Marketing” which could be a fake name @Moda829

@Andromeda#174409 Ask her to tell you if she got anything suspicious. Did she give out any other personal info, apart from the number? Also since they ‘installed’ windows 10 on the computer, do check it for anything suspicious they might have put in the pc. You can take it to a local technician or a computer repair shop for this.

@Andromeda#174411 Thanks. It’s Neuro Marketing Inc. and she gave them a lot of info. They have her bank account and a credit card. She didn’t tell me. I discovered what she had done when I checked her bank account online and saw a typed check from Neuro Marketing with “no signature required”. I don’t know how they did that. I also saw a charge on her credit card for the same day.

I'm 3 states away, so can't take it to a technician. My son looked at it and removed what he thought was suspicious a couple months ago.

@Moda829#174420 you could install an antivirus and remove anything suspicious, or ask the bank to lock the credit card and perhaps also ask the bank to lock the account if the problem still continues. A premium version would be suited. Install malwarebytes and let the trial version run for 2 weeks, It once removed 30 pup file from my system the first day I installed it.

the number is back up. just trolled them with jigsaw laugh on speaker. They RAGED!! XD

Their website

https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-986-9456

found this review, a popup scam company just like most of them.

Their address is in Florida, which is fake.

Another day; another phone number. “Roger” left the below message from (754) 240-1455. I’ve blocked the number from her phone. Feel free to torture him for me.

Unable to verify, “person you are calling is currently unavailable”. Seems like a legit voicemail greeting. I wonder if “Roger” spoofed this number?

@jaymee#176739 Thanks for checking. Can you spoof a mobile number? It is a TextNow mobile number. I’m in contact with them and provided the evidence. Hope it will be shut down soon.

@Moda829#176858 Nevermind about the spoofed number. The answer is yes and it’s easy to do.

Their website is still up, if anyone wants to take it down. neuromarketinginc.net

Thanks
