Scammers pretending to be a real business called “The Tax Group LLC,” likely to phish and rob the unknowing.
I got a voicemail earlier, with a slightly AI sounding voice, claiming to be “Shelby” from “The Tax Group LLC” and that I “still have past taxes due”
After some research, I contacted the real company and Jennina, the lady behind it confirmed to me that the number is from a scammer, and that her company has been repeatedly spoofed by scammers before.
Transcript: "Hello, it is Thursday, and this is Shelby, calling with The Tax Group LLC, calling about(?) your previous year’s tax filings. Based on out files, it looks like you still may have some past taxes still due. Our company can get your enrolled in the ‘Zero Tax Initiative,’ a program that has deemed past amounts due as non-collectible. Give us a ring back so we can get you set up. Give me a shout back at 321-398-0672. Again, my number is 321-398-0672. If you have no past amounts due, please call back to caller ID to opt out. "
