Additional information about this call: I answered the call with “Hello”, a very obviously recorded female voice asked if I was involved in a car accident that wasn’t my fault. I said nothing which resulted in them saying my number will be removed from their list.

I thought these scams were unique in USA only. Surprise.
Are you serious ? They happen in any English speaking country. They have been happening for probably 20 years in the UK. At first they were believable and now with more and more internet, of course it happens more. 20 years ago many companies actually started using Indian based call centres, which people complained about. It was a joke at the time. Ie: you call your electric company and it goes to Dehli. I think scam companies took advantage of this, to dupe people, as they would think it is legitimate. Elderly people are targeted and they get data on where they live. I think on average, a family member of mine, had a call every three days, fake pendant alarm scams, claims on boilers, electric refund and so on and so on.
