8-9 years ago, when I decided to make the switch from Windows, one of the distros I became interested in was Backtrack 4. This lead to an understanding of Social Engineering. Once I learned more about that, I then was able to see scams across Facebook, usually in local ‘For Sale’ groups. I would try posting step-by-step instructions (screenshots with highlights, etc.) on how to report them. Then I decided to to try making a screen record, and upload that to YouTube, so I could just post that link. Up until this point, I was solo, and felt like I was the only one doing this. I found a couple of anti-scam groups on Facebook and found I wasn’t alone in the fight. At this point I had never heard of ‘Scambaiting’, and at first, had no interest in that angle. Then I watched a few YouTube videos by Jim Browning/Scambaiter channel. When reporting scams, my theory has been the further up the chain I can get links removed, the more effective my energy spent is. I have always been an outsider, not exactly ‘fitting in’ with everyone else, sort of an ‘underdog’. This is where my drive comes from. I seriously dislike those that take advantage of others, especially on this level. Peoples lives can be ruined, and it’s just another day at the office for some of these scammers. Hopefully I can learn from others here, and also that I can spread some of my knowledge with others. This is a 24/7/365 never ending battle against these scammers. Intro/rant over. :v:
